Location: At 1:00 pm gather at City Hall Park (43 Park Row, New York, NY). Then march together to rally at 1:30 pm at Foley Square (Lafayette Street Worth Street, Centre St, New York, NY 10013) 

Description: Rikers Island is a disaster, and incarcerated people are at daily risk of harm and death. Since Mayor Adams took office, at least 33 people have died while in the custody of the Department of Correction. Violence is out of control, and incarcerated people are missing thousands of medical appointments every month. On Wednesday, September 25, the Federal Courts are holding a hearing to see if the City will be held in contempt for failing to improve the conditions at Rikers.

Please join us for our Shut Rikers action on Wednesday, September 25th. We’re gathering at 1:00 pm at City Hall Park (43 Park Row, New York, NY) and will march together to Foley Square, near the federal court. At 1:30 pm at Foley Square, we’ll hold a rally to make clear that until Rikers is closed, the federal courts must appoint a receiver to improve conditions and save lives.
