Katal at People’s Action Summit in Detroit

Demanding that JP Morgan Chase Stop Financing Private Prisons

katal at people’s action summit in detroit

Last week, Michigan United hosted a summit on criminal justice in Detroit, Michigan with People’s Action. Attended by Katal’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director, Lorenzo Jones, and Community Organizer, Imani Brown, the summit gave organizers and advocates the opportunity to discuss the intersections of Public Health and Criminal Justice policies and state-wide strategies for ending mass incarceration and repairing the harm it has caused Michigan’s communities and neighborhoods. Katal has been providing technical assistance to the organizers of the summit, training them to use the principles of harm reduction as an organizing methodology. We are looking forward to continuing to make change with People’s Action moving forward!

Katal members and organizers marched with Make the Road NY and others last week to demand that JP Morgan Chase stop financing private prisons and immigrant detention centers. Marchers brought shoes to represent family, friends, and loved ones separated from communities by these inhumane institutions.

The march was part of the campaign to stop Corporate Backers of Hate, calling out major corporations who are profiting from Trump’s hateful agenda. Katal is proud to stand with our allies against hate and injustice. Visit this site to learn more about the campaign and how to get involved.
