Outreach to #FreeThemNowCT

This week, we were out flyering in different parts of Hartford, speaking with community members about our #FreeThemNowCT campaign and the need to develop a substantive COVID-19 plan to protect people detained in correctional facilities. Research shows the Omicron variant is incredibly contagious and effects peoples immune response more than the previous COVID-19 variants. To learn more about our #FreeThemNowCT campaign click here

Join us and take action here to demand that Governor Lamont develop a comprehensive and transparent plan for state correctional facilities to protect our incarcerated loved ones from COVID-19!

Highlight Video of #FreeThemNowCT Rally & Die-in

Last month, we held a rally at the State Capitol to demand lawmakers develop a comprehensive plan to address COVID-19 in jails and prisons in Connecticut. During the rally, we heard from our families members of incarcerated individuals, our members, and community groups about the need to #FreeThemNowCT. Check out this highlight video of the action!

Katal Corner in the Northend Agent’s

Starting this month, we are launching our Katal Corner in the Northend Agent’s. This is Connecitcuts’ largest and longest-published African American newspaper and they focus on amplifying the voices.

In Katal’s Corner, we’ll share updates on our campaigns, like #FreeThemNowCT and#CutShutINVEST, issues in the criminal justice field at-large, a rundown of the latest statewide legislative updates out of Hartford, and more!

Check out the Northend Agent’s online here.

Katal Quotes of the Week

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” –Muhammad Ali

“I am always hoping to do better than to collaborate with whatever or whomever it is that means me no good.” –June Jordan

“I believe in social dislocation and creative trouble.” –Bayard Rustin
