Growing Power 2025 Recap

Participants in Foraging Session at Growing Power 2025, 03.09.25

On Sunday, March 9th we hosted the 3rd annual Growing Power, a collaboration between Chicks Ahoy Farm, and the Katal Center for Equity, Health, and Justice at the Artists Collective in Hartford. We welcomed over 250 people to workshops on growing food, skills, and community power featuring presenters who are farmers and growers in our FLOC (Farmers & Leaders of Color), our Pathways 2 Agriculture program, Katal staff members, and our Cultivating Justice leadership. Did you make it? Take our survey to help us make next year even better!

If you have any questions Contact Diana at diana@chicksahoyfarm.org.

Justice Impact Survey

Katal is fighting back against mass incarceration and mass criminalization in Connecticut, and we want to hear from you! As part of our probation reform campaign, we’ve launched a Justice Impact Survey to collect stories and experiences from directly impacted people. Your input helps shape our fight for a more just and equitable system. All responses are confidential, though not anonymous, so only share what you’re comfortable with. Once completed, we’ll follow up with you.

Pro-Democracy Phone Zap

Lead Organizer, Melanie, opening up the Pro-Democracy Phone Zap, 03.12.25

Yesterday, Wednesday, March 12th, we had our second weekly Pro-Democracy Phone Zap! Every Wednesday in March, from 12-12:45pm (EST), we’re gathering on Zoom to call our elected officials. We’ll start by calling our congressional representatives in D.C. to demand they take action to stop the coup and defend democracy. Then, we’ll call our state-based officials about local campaigns. If you’ve been looking for a starting point to take action, this is a great place to jump in!

Join us for our next Pro-Democracy Phone Zap on Wednesday, March 19th. Register here!

If you have any questions, please reach out to Lily at lily@katalcenter.org. We hope to see you there!

Katal Quote of the Week
