At the close of 2018, we announced the filing of the Less Is More: Community Supervision Revocation Reform Act, sponsored by Assemblyman Walter T. Mosley. The Act— in which we drafted alongside our colleagues at the Columbia Justice Lab and Unchained— would create “earned merit time,” reduce unnecessary re-incarceration, and help close Rikers Island.

We are excited to share that New York District Attorneys: Eric Gonzalez (Brooklyn), David Soares (Albany), and Cyrus Vance Jr. (Manhattan) announced their support of the Less Is More Act in an opinion editorial featured within the NY Daily News. The article expressed the DAs’ reasoning behind their support of our comprehensive legislation.
“We need to treat parole like a focused resource targeted at helping people turn their lives around, not a recidivism trap,” they stated. In order to end mass incarceration and ensure a more equitable New York, we need to come together as a community in this fight for justice for all. Let’s get this bill passed!

The National Network for Justice (NNJ)— in which we are a founding member— is a network of state-based groups working collaboratively for a voice in the development of national strategies for decarceration and the over-criminalization of people; capacity and movement-building; as well as, peer-to-peer support.
Join NNJ on January 17th, 2019 for an opportunity to advance your knowledge of the Twitter social networking platform and learn ways to build your online presence. The presentation will be offered from 2-4pm and hosted by Angelyn Frazer-Giles, the Network Manager for NNJ.
