lorenzo jones on ct cross cultural symposium panel
Lorenzo Jones, Katal’s Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director, was featured on a panel at the Cross Cultural Symposium in Hartford, Connecticut on June 29, 2017. Sponsored by the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, the symposium addressed some of the challenges that direct service providers face in underserved andunderrepresented communities. Panelists examined ways to identify, educate, and empower those at highest risk in vulnerable communities. With over 25 years of experience organizing communities in Connecticut to influence the political process while developing, coaching, andmentoring community leaders for social justice, Lorenzo had a lot of important insight to share in his home state!

Keith Brown, MPH, Katal’s Director of Health & Harm Reduction
Mass incarceration is a public health issue. At Katal, we elevate health issues in criminal justice policy considerations to improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities among those involved with the criminal justice system.
That’s why Keith Brown, MPH – Katal’s Director of Health and Harm Reduction – is being featured on a panel this week at the 2017 National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) Annual Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. NACCHO Annual 2017 is a unique opportunity for local health officials and public health partners from across the country to network and discuss common and timely public health issues. Keith and his fellow panelists at the post conference workshop titled “How Health Departments Can Use a Health in All Policies Approach to Engage to Address Mass Incarceration” will speak about the importance of public health practitioners in efforts to reduce the harms of the mass criminalization and mass incarceration.
