join us for wny harm reduction conference

Tomorrow, November 2nd in Buffalo, New York, our Director of Health and Harm Reduction, Keith Brown will be speaking at the 2018 WNY Harm Reduction Conference, hosted by Evergreen Health and the Drug Policy Alliance, and put together in partnership by EndOverdoseNY, in which we are a member of, and the Erie County Department of Health.

The 2018 WNY Harm Reduction Conference, spanning the full day, will bring together service providers, community leaders and organizers, public health officials, members of educational institutions and those directly impacted to learn from a panel of experts and each other. Keith, alongside a plethora of harm reduction experts, will be discussing innovative harm reduction initiatives, race and the war on drugs, and using harm reduction in clinical and criminal justice settings. We are very excited to be a part of this event and look forward to having you join us!

Please RSVP here as space is limited.

We ask that no more than three individuals from the same organization attend. Admission is free, breakfast and lunch will be provided, and lot parking is available.

L to R: Cait Messner (discussion moderator), Donna Hylton, and Piper Kerman

This past Saturday, October 27th, our Senior Justice Fellow, Donna Hylton, had the pleasure of joining Piper Kerman, author of the memoir Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, for an important conversation about writing and activism in an era of mass incarceration. The event was hosted by PEN America’s Justice Fellowship program.

PEN America’s Writing For Justice Fellowship commissions writers to create written works of lasting merit that illuminate critical issues related to mass incarceration and propel public debate. The Fellowship aims to harness the power of writers and writing in bearing witness to the societal consequences of mass incarceration by capturing and sharing the stories of incarcerated individuals, their families, communities, and the wider impact of the criminal justice system. We are thankful to PEN America for inviting us to be a part of driving this much needed discourse!
