Thursday 1/24: community groups to protest Mayor Adams’s State of the City Address at Hostos Community College in the Bronx
Community Groups and People Impacted By Rikers to Gather at 11:30 AM to Demand Mayor Adams Cut the City’s Jail Population, Shut Down Rikers, and Invest in True Community Safety
New York, NY – This Wednesday, January 24, Mayor Eric Adams will deliver his third Mayoral State of the City address at Hostos Community College in the Bronx. During this address, the Mayor will outline his priorities for the year, which include funding the bloated budgets of the NYPD and the DOC while cutting essentials like education, libraries, re-entry programs, and more. Ahead of the speech, at 11:30 AM, people directly impacted by Rikers, along with dozens of community groups, will gather at Hostos Community College to demand that the Mayor shut down Rikers and invest in our communities.
WHAT: Care Not Cuts / Care Not Criminalization Action
WHEN: 11:30 AM at Hostos Community College (an hour before the State of the City beings at 12:30 PM)
WHERE: Hostos Community College (450 Grand Concourse, Bronx NY)
WHO: The People’s Plan, Communities United for Police Reform, and dozens of groups who are demanding Mayor Adams undo cuts to basic services like libraries, CUNY, schools, pre-K, and more while continuing to prioritize policing and jails over care and community safety.
