The Katal Center for Health, Equity, and Justice is working with the Open Society Foundations and the Illinois Consoritum on Drug Policy, Roosevelt University as well as Workers Center for Racial Justice and Trinity Church Chicago to bring an international delegation to the U.S. to meet with local groups and community members to discuss local, national, and international drug policies. Because the war on drugs in communities in the U.S. is connected to the war on drugs in communities in other parts of the world, the Delegation presents an opportunity to build connections across geographies and cultures, cultivate solidarity, and spur both local interest and local press related to the UNGASS. We hope to amplify the work being done locally to end the war on drugs and mass incarceration while also amplifying the work within the formal UN process to push the U.S. government to adopt a new approach.
