Katal In Connecticut
For nearly a decade, we organized in Connecticut to build power and cut correctional populations, shut down jails and prisons, and invest in real safety: housing, health care, education, jobs. We ended our work in the state in mid-2025, but the fight goes on.
Probation REform
In 2023, Katal and our partners published a landmark report about community supervision in Connecticut. Probation—which was designed to be an alternative to incarceration—has become a direct pathway into the prison system, creating an endless cycle of supervision and incarceration. Today, more than 30,000 people are on probation in Connecticut—three times the number of those incarcerated.
Cultivating Justice
From 2022 – 2025, Katal helped incubate Cultivating Justice, a multigenerational project that aims to nurture Connecticut’s next generation of farmers of color. The project focused on organizing, and developing leadership among Black, Indigenous, and Latine People of Color (BILPOC) through farming, business development, and civic engagement.

Connecticut Monthly Criminal Justice Reform Calls
Launched in 2018, our statewide criminal justice reform calls were held monthly and became the best place to learn about about organizing and advocacy campaigns for criminal justice reform in Connecticut.
